Why Raleigh Drivers Are Coating Their Cars Now

Triangle weather is hard on paint. Summer UV in Raleigh fades clear coat fast. Pine pollen season coats every surface twice a year. Road debris on I-40, I-540, and US-1 chips and scratches daily. A ceramic coating sits on top of your paint as a sacrificial layer, taking the abuse so your factory clear coat does not.

Resale value is real money. A car with clean, protected paint commands more at trade-in and on the private market. Buyers notice swirl marks, oxidation, and water spots before they notice anything else. Coating your vehicle now protects that investment whether you plan to keep it five years or flip it next spring.

Maintenance drops to almost nothing. A properly coated vehicle sheds water, dirt, and pollen with a simple rinse. No more hand-waxing every few months. No more spending Saturday morning fighting water spots. One coat does the work your old routine never could.

The Ceramic Coating Process

1

Quote and Vehicle Assessment

You fill out the quote form and Luke reviews your vehicle make, model, condition, and location. You get a clear scope of work back fast so you know exactly what is happening before anyone touches your car.

Under 5 minutes on your end
2

Full Exterior Wash and Rinse

Luke arrives at your home or workplace and starts with a full hand wash using a two-bucket method to remove loose dirt and road grime. This step matters because coating anything dirty traps contamination permanently under the ceramic layer.

30 to 45 minutes
3

Paint Decontamination

Iron remover is sprayed across every panel to dissolve embedded brake dust and industrial fallout. A clay bar follows to pull out anything the chemical stage missed. The paint has to be completely clean at the surface level before correction or coating begins.

45 to 60 minutes
4

Paint Correction

Depending on your chosen tier, Luke uses a dual-action or rotary polisher to cut out swirl marks, light scratches, water spots, and oxidation. This is the step that makes the coating pop. Coating over bad paint locks in the damage forever, so this step is non-negotiable.

1 to 4 hours depending on condition and tier
5

Ceramic Coating Application

The ceramic coating is applied panel by panel using applicator blocks, worked into the surface, and leveled before it flashes. Each layer adds hardness, hydrophobic performance, and gloss. Luke works methodically to ensure even coverage with no high spots or missed sections.

1 to 2 hours
6

Curing and Final Inspection

The coating needs initial cure time before the vehicle is exposed to water or contamination. Luke does a full panel-by-panel inspection under LED lighting to confirm coverage and catch anything that needs a second pass. You get a care sheet with everything you need to know for the first week.

1 to 2 hours curing on-site, 24 hours before first water exposure

Ceramic Coating FAQ

Luke's Mobile Detailing offers three tiers of ceramic coating service at different price points depending on your vehicle size, current paint condition, and the level of correction and protection you want. Exact pricing is provided in your free quote after a quick vehicle assessment. There is no obligation and quotes are turned around fast.
A full ceramic coating appointment typically runs between four and eight hours depending on the tier, the size of your vehicle, and how much paint correction is needed beforehand. Luke will give you a time estimate specific to your car when you request your quote. Most clients schedule for a weekend morning when the vehicle can sit undisturbed through curing.
A professionally applied ceramic coating on a properly prepared surface typically lasts two to five years or more depending on the product tier, how the vehicle is maintained, and how much exposure it gets. Higher-tier coatings with more layers hold up longer. Proper wash technique and periodic decontamination extend the life significantly.
Coated vehicles are dramatically easier to maintain but they still need regular washing. Use a pH-neutral car wash soap, avoid automatic brushless car washes with harsh chemicals, and rinse the vehicle regularly to prevent buildup. Annual ceramic boost sprays can help refresh hydrophobic performance. Luke includes a care sheet and a maintenance kit with Elite Armor packages.
Warranty coverage depends on the product and tier applied to your vehicle. Luke uses professional-grade ceramic coating products with manufacturer-backed performance standards. Warranty details are provided in writing at the time of service. Ask about coverage specifics when you request your free quote.
Wax sits on top of the paint and breaks down in two to three months from heat, UV, and washing. Paint sealants last a bit longer but still need reapplication every six to twelve months. Ceramic coating chemically bonds to the clear coat and forms a semi-permanent layer that wax and sealant simply cannot replicate in hardness, hydrophobic performance, or longevity. It is a one-time investment versus a recurring maintenance cost.
You need to be available at the start to hand over the vehicle and available when Luke wraps up for the walkthrough and payment. You do not need to stand next to the car the whole time. Many clients in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, and surrounding communities just leave the car in the driveway and go about their day.
Ceramic coating adds a hard, sacrificial layer over your clear coat that resists light scratches, swirl marks from washing, and minor surface scuffs. It does not stop rock chips or deep scratches from road debris. For chip protection on high-impact areas like the front bumper and hood, paint protection film is the right product. Luke can advise on combining both for full coverage.
